Project Idea- Anyone Want To Be Part?

I think it is a wonderful idea but before you proceed with this project...please check into it a little further.
My experiences with rare diseases is first hand and not something that should be discussed here. I have lived my entire life with the knowledge that being alive is a gift and shouldn't ever be taken for granted. The age of 12 was my deadline and I'm a few years past that... Praise the Lord

On this board there are mothers and grandmothers of children with "Make a Wish" children. I am one of them and so is kbrzez. My granddaughter, KC has a rare muscle disorder and is taking treatments for the next two years in hope that she will go into remission. Yes, it can be painful for her, our family and our friends.

Now, if you would like to consider giving a BB to a patient or donations for a BB ... it might be best if you contact your local Make a Wish chapter, Miracle Network, or Ronald McDonald House or the Pediatrics floor of the local hospital.There may be an on going fund that could be supported.

As far as AG ... I believe that they donate at the corporate level but if you ask a CS they would probably be able to direct your call to the correct department.

Personally, I really like Lindsey's original "AG Hugs" name. A slogan would be fun... nothing is coming to mind at the moment.

Good advice Mrs. C. By the way, how is KC doing? She is very lucky to have a grandma like you, and we are lucky to have you on the board. Is there anything you would like us to do for KC? I can't do much, but let us know what we can do. I only wish our wallets were as big as our hearts [img]frown.gif[/img]

Thank you, just prayers. Grandpa, her dad and uncle are taking her to the OSU football practice tomorrow and she is really excited.
There's a wonderful play area with indoor pool and activity area (gymset) and other group things for special little people in her town. I didn't have those things but my Gramps was great... taught me to deal off the bottom of the deck. [img]smile.gif[/img] Sure made getting IV's go faster.

She was worried about hair loss but we are going to raid my closet and laugh at all of my funny hats. I told her I would knit a pink one with purple polka dots just like the one I did for grandpa. She laughs. Each test has shown improvement in her muscle movement so we are blessed.

Just prayers for the doctors, nurses, therapists and wonderful people that care for patients.

Just to let everyone know, the site is already most the way done and its been named AG Hugs. [img]cool.gif[/img]

Slogan is still negotiable, however. My idea was "Dolls that make a difference..." But I want lots of ideas so we have plenty to choose from. [img]biggrin.gif[/img] (y)

So for now we need to decide what we are getting these girls. So what was everyone's opinions on the issue about handmade and pre-loved items?

Also, here is my list of people for the AG Hugs's Board of Directors; no one has messaged me so we may have to start nominating people lol.

President: Moi [img]biggrin.gif[/img] (Hehehe...the power [img]wink.gif[/img] ) directs the operation through website maintenence, writing the newsletter, acepting donations (at a future date) and general overseeing

Director of Personal Relations: answers emails

Director of Referrals: goes through the referrals and decides which ones to do when

Director of Fundraising: oversees raising money through charity auctions, drawings, contests, etc., as well as plans future fundraising

That's all I think we need right now: if you have a suggestion, as always, let me know! Also, I really need to fill these positions; it would make everything run much more efficiently, so if you feel like one of those is something you'd like to do, please PM me!

Now let's think about our goals for AG Hugs and where we want to take this within, say, the next year or so.

So far we have:

This will encourage donations and make us offivial pretty much. [img]smile.gif[/img]

>running website with it's own domain name
aghugs.org is available...it will cost about $32 the first month for initially setting it up, then $12 every month after that

>active fundaraisers
To help kids, we need money. (obviously)

Now how long should we spend per child(ren)? What kind of monitary limits, if any, will we set as far as spending.

I was thinking maybe two weeks per child, and if we feel an extension is needed we could give them in one-week increments. Any other suggestions concerning this?

OK, now I'll be lurking, but mainly working on the site. Your input would be greatly appreciated!
